Our Story

Inspired by the growing societal need to provide affordable, quality care for elders, Stephen Smith founded his agency in 1981, which is now recognized as one of Massachusetts most respected private home care companies. Best of Care was among the first in the state to earn Accreditation from the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.

Stephen’s son Kevin joined the company in 2007. Together, they work hands-on with families and case managers to provide counsel for home health care financial planning, hiring and placing the right caregivers, and offering solutions to problems based on their years of collective experience and knowledge.

Today, Best of Care delivers home care to more than 75 towns and cities to the Greater Boston area, the South Shore, and Southern Massachusetts. The agency has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and employs over 200 employees. In the 30 years since its inception, Best of Care has helped thousands of individuals and families receive the reliable, quality home health care they deserve in the comfort of their own homes, at affordable rates.

On a state and national level, the owners are involved with lobbying efforts and health care reform at a time when the industry is experiencing rapid regulatory change and growth. Their efforts support future reform to raise quality standards for the home care industry, to increase oversight for better safety measures and to improve the workforce for caregivers.

The home care industry is at the beginning of a massive growth movement. With more than 36 million people aged 65 and older, injuries and long-term illness among this population cannot be sustained through long-term institutional care. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, ten of the twenty fastest growing occupations are healthcare related, with home health care staffing needs expected to grow by 46% by 2018. The owners have plans to meet this growing demand. Expansion is planned to reach more towns on Cape Cod and in each service area to meet the needs of patients and families in the communities served.
