“The best thing that Best of Care did was work with us to find the best fit. They identified personalities that matched well with my mom. That was a huge comfort.”
Best of Care goes beyond matching a caregiver with the home care services a client needs. We look for a suitable personality match, staff foreign language assignments or assign a male aide when heavy lifting is required. And we guarantee our matchmaking abilities. If a client or their family is not comfortable with the fit, we will change your caregiver immediately.
“We’re lucky that my mother and her caregiver live so close together. It’s a natural advantage because she has the ability to respond quickly to situations like my mother’s sudden hospitalization and return to home. She can be flexible with her hours, which is also helpful to us. She personally covers most of the weekends and supervises scheduling of other caregivers for the remaining time we need. I’m also pleased that I have a good working relationship with the owners of Best of Care.”
Our caregivers are tuned in to your needs, from the intake assessment to scheduling and delivering care. Best of Care aides are trained to recognize changes in behavior, vital signs and other conditions that warrant a change in the care plan. We will work with you to adapt the plan whenever necessary.
“We usually took care of the food shopping for our friend. One time we were going away for a two-week vacation and the Best of Care aide offered to do that for us. We trusted her with taking care the money and the shopping. When we got back she had put all the receipts in an envelope along with the leftover cash. We hadn’t asked her to do that she did it on her own initiative.”
Our aides are certified and insured. They have the proper training and supervision needed to make you or your loved one feel safe at home. Every caregiver is thoroughly screened and has passed comprehensive state and federal background checks. We also verify educational and employment records. Our accreditation with the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts provides an added layer of security and peace of mind.
“I’m not sure who identified Best of Care for us, but they staffed the perfect home health aide. My aunt adored her and the other Best of Care staff. They were so reliable and dedicated. They are always willing to work with us, especially in the event our needs changed. They did extra things to make her more comfortable putting lotion on her legs because her skin was so dry, positioning her so she didn’t get sores they were really tuned into her needs.”
Best of Care has a proven track record of hiring the right caregivers and treating them right. That is why so many aides have been with our agency for years. This continuity allows us to place people in the right homes for the long-term. Many of our clients have had the same caregiver for several years. The bond they form makes them feel more like friends and family than hired help.
“I know Gran was also so very grateful for the love and attentiveness and humor you all brought to this most intimate and very difficult time. Really, there are no words to describe how people can come into your life for such short and intense times and yet have such a profound effect and influence on an event and on your memory. Thank you all so very, very much.”
“The team at Best of Care were incredibly helpful and gracious in the delivery and arrangement of care for my elderly friend. Even in the most challenging moments, the entire team worked cheerfully with me to ensure the safety and well-being of their client. When the going got tough, they were right there with me, seven days a week. If I should ever need home care in the South Shore again, Best of Care is the team I shall call!”
“I’ve been trying to figure out what makes Best of Care so good. Everyone is so flexible and responsive. I think it has to come from the top. It’s a family-owned business and they impart their values to all of their staff.”
Best of Care is a family-operated home care agency. Owners Stephen and Kevin Smith are a father and son team on a mission to deliver quality care at an affordable price. Stephen has over 30 years in the home care industry and runs the operational side of the business. Kevin, his son, meets with clients and families, face to face, to ensure client satisfaction. Both are accessible to help solve problems or to offer personal connection, guidance, and support.
“When we started out, we needed help with companion and light personal care services. But as my mother’s condition progressed, Best of Care provided services 7 days a week for up to 9 hours each day.”
Our agency knows that you may need different services and solutions as health conditions change over time. Our care team provides whatever level of care you or your loved one may need. We offer skilled nursing assessments, personal care, meal planning, homemaking, mobility support, care for dementia, assistance with chronic care conditions, or companionship and socialization. And our services are not just for the elderly. We help patients of all ages recovering from surgery and people dealing with mental health issues.
“It’s a matter of security. Being alone is hard for people, especially in the wintertime when the number of neighbors declines radically. It’s a matter of getting attention and having someone to talk to. And at the same time, relieving that burden from someone like me who has work and other things in my life and doesn’t want to be constantly feeling guilty that their mother is sitting home alone.”
“They are the best in taking care of my 88-year-old very disabled husband. Gave wonderful sponge baths. They were kind and compassionate.”
Our agency understands the pressures that baby boomers face. 8,000 boomers per day are turning 65. As this group continues to age, the stress they face in caring for aging parents as they struggle to work and care for their children will only get worse.
“When I reflect on my life, during this period with my mom, it’s one of the tougher times. Best of Care was like the cavalry. I couldn’t have done it without them. They never failed me. The positive thing about Best of Care is they were very consistent. The aides would come through snowstorms to be with my mom. They reminded me of holidays and helped me plan ahead for the week by reminding me of things I wasn’t thinking of. They would give me options if I wanted to change the schedule.”
Best of Care staff are trained from the start to understand that reliability and consistency is expected in all aspects of delivering home care. Aides learn how to handle all types of situations that might arise, so they are prepared to manage client expectations.
“The home health aides kept a notebook that served as a daily journal to communicate exactly what was going on with my mom as far as eating, using the toilet, mobility and so on. That was extremely helpful to me.”
“I have been blessed to have one of your caregivers, take care of me. I never have to worry whether she will show up. My house is always immaculate. She goes above and beyond the call of duty. When asked to take extra hours, she does without question. Ester made me feel comfortable and safe. Because I was in such good hands, I could put all my focus on my physical therapy.”
We keep in close communication with you and your family, working in teams with homemakers and home health aides and, when necessary, nurses, case workers, social workers, eldercare lawyers, guardians, and our office staff. This keeps all the people involved in your care informed about your care plan.
“We hired a private individual during the week, but she didn’t want to work weekends. Then we brought another agency in for weekend care during the afternoon, but they had a four-hour minimum. The Senior Resources person I met with said Best of Care had a one-hour minimum which was much more affordable and fit our needs better. We have been using them for four years now.”
Best of Care delivers as little as one hour of service a day for people who may only need a few hours of companionship and light house keeping to round the clock care for patients managing chronic illnesses and end of life issues. Our staff will assess your needs within 24-48 hours of your intake call, and recommend a plan of action to address your individual needs.
